Summer Solstice 108 Sun Salutations
Ashtangis love to get down. Then back up. Then down again. In fact, right after we chant and omm, we get right to getting down with some Surya Namaskara A. Or, Sun Salutation A.
On June 20th from 7-9PM at Union Station, nine graduates of Front YogaLoft’s Yoga Teacher Training program will lead the community in 108 Sun Salutations to celebrate the Summer Solstice: Camille Zolman, Andrea Cheney-Dosier, Julieanne Barrus, Brody Mikesell, Maegan McBroom, Jackie Mobley, Michelle Williams, Emily Shell, and Sonya Evans.
Each instructor will put their own spin on the traditional Sun Salutation sequence, and walk the crowd through it about ten times. Bring a mat, water, towel, friends, and enough fortitude to finish 108 Surya Namaskaras. Don’t worry about bringing cash – it’s free!
Why Sun Salutations? Because it’s coming back around tomorrow, so we may as well practice greeting it. Also, Sun Salutations take us from standing as tall as possible, to down-dog, and then back up to our feet. Every struggle that knocks us down inherently provides us with the opportunity to get back up. Why 108? Because 107 ‘ain’t enough, and 801 is way too many. If you can dig it, come get down.
