The Front, previously known as The Body Shop and The Wasatch Front, has been a part of the Utah climbing community since 1989. Over the past three decades our spaces and customer-base have grown tremendously. But one thing has never changed: our love for the outdoors and the people around us.

Since our platform and reach have increased, so has our ability to give back to the region. Making a difference in our community is what #TheFrontLine is all about, and 2019 marks another EPIC year!

For decades we have had the pleasure of hosting various fundraising events for great organizations. In addition to those efforts, we launched the Impact Coalition in 2018 to form an ongoing partnership with our members to provide consistent support to nonprofits that do amazing work locally. The partnership asks our members to work with us through a monthly donation to one or all of the non-profits below, starting at just $1.00. The Front matches those contributions up to $40k per year!

The program is now #TheFrontLine’s biggest component.

The Salt Lake Climbers Alliance

The SLCA exists to provide a unified voice for climbers in the Wasatch and surrounding regions through advocacy, stewardship, community and education.

Community Animal Welfare Society

CAWS is Utah’s oldest animal rescue group. The organization works with the community to help animals through rescue, foster, education and adoption programs.

Utah Clean Energy

Utah Clean Energy is at the forefront of stopping energy waste, creating clean energy and building a smart energy future for our community.

Volunteers of America

Volunteers of America provides a bridge to self-reliance and health for vulnerable individuals who struggle with homelessness, addiction and mental illness in our communities.

NEW FOR OGDEN IN 2019: YCC Family Crisis Center

The mission of YCC Family Crisis Center is to “save and change lives” by working to prevent and alleviate domestic violence, sexual assault and homelessness by providing safety, services and resources.

In 2019, the Up For Air Series had nearly 400 runners in 4 locations and 600 climbers at The Front Climbing Club facilities. Together, we raised over $50,000 for Breathe Utah.

Pride Night (SLC Location) // May 28 2019

We kicked off Pride Week with photographer and climber Nikki Smith while enjoying a night of climbing, socializing and celebrating with other members of Utah’s LGBTQIA+ climbing community and allies.

Huge thank you to REI and Cotopaxi for generously covering the entrance fee for the first 50 non-members to arrive at the gym!

Summer Solstice Party // June 19 2019

Front members and our Impact Co partners got together to meet and mingle, celebrate the solstice, drink some beer and enjoy tunes from DJ Kritter.

Global Climbing Day // August 24 2019

We teamed up with The North Face and climbing gyms across the globe to celebrate inclusivity and community through climbing. We offered free climbing for everyone, live music, drinks and an allaround good time! Plus, for every climber who joined Global Climbing Day, The North Face donated $1 to the Khumbu Climbing Center (up to $100,000).

The Front Line + Farmer Next Door (SLC Location)

At our Salt Lake City location, we continued our partnership with longtime friend and owner of Farmer Next Door, Jill Bell, to provide our members with discounted CSA shares. Our members must love staying fit and strong with fresh veggies, because the summer 2019 CSA sold out!! We’re psyched to see this program succeed as it helps support 23 local farms.

Thank you to all who contributed time and money, attended events and supported The Front Line and its causes in 2019. We genuinely couldn’t do it without you.
