TRX Training – How Hanging from the Ceiling Makes You Stronger

TRX, a patented suspension system, can make a grown man cry. You may think you are in great shape, but add these straps into the mix and you’ll find all those muscles that have successfully stayed dormant during your regular workout routine, and they will scream at you.

By placing your hands or feet into this mechanism and executing precise movement patterns, you are forcing a combination of muscle groups into action to stabilize your body and keep yourself from swinging around. It is awkward at first, and you’ll probably swing a bit, but once you get the hang of it you will notice a few of the following effects:

Core Strength – Hello, cave routes! Climbing on steep surfaces requires a strong core, and TRX will ensure your whole core – hips and buttocks, not just abs! – is constantly at work, i.e. getting stronger, as you maintain balance through the movements.

Improved Cardio – Really?! Yep, really. If you’re sick of the treadmill but still want to maintain your aerobic capacity, breathe your way through 50-minutes of cardiac glory.

No Pain – Really?! No, not really. You are going to be sore from head to toe. Really. But, the low-impact nature of TRX will help you to build strength and the aforementioned aerobic capacity without the aching knees of those of us plagued with the disease of “getting old”. In fact, TRX is often used in joint rehabilitation because of its usefulness in strengthening our proximal joint stability (say that 10 times fast!).

Better Workouts – As in, better for where you’re at and where you want to be. Whether you need more intensity to really push your limits or less intensity so you can build up to difficult movements like push-ups, pull-ups or lunges while ensuring proper form and range of motion, your instructor can use the TRX straps to get you there.

Bitty, one of The Front Ogden’s experienced TRX instructors, will expertly help you to achieve all of the above during her Thursday evening TRX classes.

Bitty (pictured above) is a 16-year veteran in the fitness industry (which is crazy because we are sure she’s only 20 years old…), a Certified Personal Trainer, Certified TRX Instructor, Crossfit Coach, and previously Les Mills and Silver Sneakers Certified. i.e., she knows what she’s doing!

Ogden locals, sign up for a TRX class on MindBody by searching for The Front Climbing Club or on our website, and we’ll see you in the cave!

If you’re in SLC, sign up for our TRX classes here instead!
